Giving Azaan in the right ear and Iqaamah in the left ear of the newborn child

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: What to be done to a child in whose left ear azaan and in right ear iqamah was uttered mistakenly or nervously? And what is the step to be followed when he realizes his mistakes after 5 years?

Bismillaah

A: It is mustahab that the azaan be given in the right ear and the iqaamah in the left ear of the newborn child. However if one had given the azaan in the left ear and the iqaamah in the right ear, the azaan and iqaamah will be valid though he has left out the mustahab. If one had realized at that time, then he should repeat giving the azaan and iqaamah according to the mustahab manner. Nevertheless now that few years has elapsed, he will not need to repeat the azaan and iqaamah.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
