Question:

I am in Pakistan these days. My father is not well. He has a question because of his condition he needs to wear diapers which gets changed as and when required. He is extremely confused as to how to say his prayers as he feels impure. Please advise!

Jazāk Allāh Khayr/ Thank you for contacting Mathabah.

If your father has a condition wherein he has perpetual impurities excreting due to a medical condition, then he is considered amongst the ma’dhūr (excused). Such a person will only make one wuū for the duration of one prayer time. With that one wuū, he can pray as many prayers etc. as he wants despite the impurities exiting, for the entire duration of the prayer time until the next prayer time does not commence. It is recommended for your father to change into a new diaper when making the ablution. – (See: Badāi’ Al-Ṣanāi, Dār Al-Kutub Al-‘Ilmīyyah, Vol 1, Page 238) [1]

“The Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) instructed Fāṭimah Bint Abī Ḥubaysh (may God be pleased with her) to wash the discharge and pray. Such a woman who had excessive discharge was also instructed to make wuḍū for every prayer, until the time for the next prayer came.” – (See: Abū Dāwūd 298) [2]

Only Allāh knows best.
