Can I Do This?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Mahmoodiyah

Question:

Dear Mufti Saheb,
Assalamualaikum,

I would like to print and distribute useful and interesting religious articles being published in the various Islamic websites for the purpose of Isaal-e-Sawaab. I want to know whether it is compulsory that I seek the permission of the publishers to do so ? There are Fatwas from some Muftis that it is OK to distribute Islamic literature without the prior permission of the writer / publisher especially when it is not for monetary gains but only for the spread of the religious knowledge. And since my intention is only for Isaal-e-Sawaab is it OK for me to do so ?

Jazakallah Khair,

The web-sites which can be looked at and visited to gain benefit are free. No fees are asked to visit these web-sites, so one does not require prior permission to print out the exact articles from the web-sites. Along with printing out articles, reference of the web-sites must also be given. Doing this does not cause the owner of the web-site to suffer any monetary loss. It is ill-mannered and bad conduct of a person to print articles from such web-sites which he needs to seek permission, but does seek any permission before printing, even though the owner does not suffer any monetary loss. If the owner suffers monetary loss because articles were printed from his web-site, then without prior permission, printing will not be permissible.

And Allah Ta’ala knows best
