Seeing Nabi (S.A.W.) in a Dream

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Mahmoodiyah

Question:

Assalamualaikum

What are the Ahadeeth mentioning the virtues of seeing Hazrat Muhammad SAW in dream, or in other words, what are the benefit of seeing him (SAW) in the world and hereafter?

Wassalaam

Answer:

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) narrates that Nabi (S.A.W.) said, “He who sees me in his dream will see me in his wakefulness or it is as if he has seen me in a state of wakefulness, for Shaitaan does not appear in my form.” (Bukhari, Muslim)

A dream wherein Nabi (S.AW.) is seen is definitely a true dream, as the Hadith clearly proves that Shaitaan cannot take the form of Nabi (S.A.W.)

There is a difference of opinion amongst the Ulamaa as to whether the implication of this Hadith was confined to the period of Nabi (S.A.W.)’s worldly life or whether it is for all times. The first group are of the opinion that this Hadith was confined to Nabi (S.A.W.)‘s worldly life, whereas others believe that the one who sees Nabi (S.AW.) in a dream after his worldly life will see him on the day of Qiyaamah.

However, one should bear in mind that, the person who sees Nabi (S.AW.) in a dream is definitely a pious person who has great love for the Nabi of Allah.

And Allah Ta’ala knows best
