Question: Assalamualaikum, Can you please explain the Islamic ruling in regards to females cutting their hair. As I understand it, it is permissible for females to cut their hair as long as they are not carrying styles that imitate the males. Also is there a ruling that states that a females hair should be all one length? Therefore fringes etc would be unacceptable, Islamically? Jazakallah!

Answer:

It is not permissible for a female to cut her hair in a manner which resembles males or Kuffar women (fashions which are in vogue today).  Therefore the Ulamaa have stipulated that if the length of the hair of a female exceeds half her back then it will be permissible for her to trim or cut her hair till it reaches the length of half her back.
