Shortened Question:

What sea foods are Halal for Hanafis?

Question:

What sea foods are Halal for the Hanafis to eat?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

According to Imam Abu Hanifah (Rahmatullahi Ta’Ala), only live fish from the creatures of the sea can be consumed. Anything else besides live fish from the sea is not permissible. [i]

It is not permissible to eat a fish if it is dead and floating in the sea.[ii]
