Contraception other than condoms

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by IslamicPortal.co.uk

Contraception other than condoms

Question

Is there any other acceptable contraception other than a condom?

Answer

Contraception should only be used if there is a valid reason to do so. There are several methods of contraception which are permissible as long as (a) they are not permanent/irreversible (b) they are not harmful and (c) the spouse consents. Accordingly, female sterilisation and vasectomy are not allowed.
