Etihad Travel Voucher
Question
Is the following scheme offered by airlines such as Etihad permissible or would it be regarded as interest? ‘Buy an Etihad Travel Voucher between 10 – 24 June and we’ll add 50% to the value of your voucher for free. So, when you’re ready to book your next trip, you’ll have more to spend on that well-deserved break.”

Answer
It is permissible to benefit from the scheme. There is no ambiguity therein and it does not contain any usury (ribā).
قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: الصلح جائز بين المسلمين، إلا صلحا حرم حلالا أو أحل حراما، والمسلمون على شروطهم، إلا شرطا حرم حلالا أو أحل حراما، رواه الترمذي (١٣٥٢) وأبو داود (٣٥٩٤)، وصححه الترمذي۔
