Angel kissing the forehead of the one who completes the Quran

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by IslamicPortal.co.uk

Is there any narration that when a person completes the recitation of the Qurʾān, Jibrīl (peace be upon him) comes and kisses him?

Answer

We have not come across any ḥadīth of the Prophet ﷺ or any of the companions that mentions Jibrīl (peace be upon him) or any angel kissing the one who completes the Qurʾān.

However, there are a few narrations from some scholars like Ḥabīb ibn Abī ʿAmrah (d. 142/759-60, whose narrations are transmitted in all six ḥadīth books, Tahdhīb al-Kamāl, 5:386), Sufyān al-Thawrī (d. 161/778) and ʿIsā ibn Yūnus (d. 188/804) which state, “When a person completes [the recitation of] the Qurʾān, the angel kisses him in between his eyes.” Imam Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal (d. 241/855) is reported to have praised this statement. ʿAllāmah Muḥammad Murtaḍā al-Zabīdī (d. 1205/1791) explains that the angels do this out of respect for the Qurʾān and the reciter. He adds that from the creation of Allah, the angels have the greatest desire to listen to the Qurʾān from human beings.

These statements, however, do not make any specific reference to Jibrīl (peace be upon him) and are not transmitted from the companions or the Prophet ﷺ.
