A narration attributed to ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) regarding the gaze

Question

Is this suitable to quote:

There is no [limb] in the body which shows less gratitude than the eye, so do not give it what it asks for, as it will occupy you from remembering Allah ‘Azza wa Jalla

Answer

I have not come across this narration in any authentic primary or secondary source.

The narration has been attributed to Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) in certain Shi’i sources. It should therefore not be quoted until it can be sourced and verified.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
