The value of one’s eyesight

Is this a Hadith?

Bakr ibn ‘Abdillah Al Muzani (rahimahullah):

“O son of Adam, if you wish to know the magnitude of blessings that Allah has bestowed upon you then just close your eyes.” [And realise what a great bounty just this this one bounty of eyesight is]- Ibn Abid Dunya

Answer

Imams Abu Bakr ibn Abid Dunya and Bayhaqi (rahimahumallah) have recorded this as the statement of Bakr ibn ‘Abdillah Al Muzani (rahimahullah), a reliable Tabi’i and not as a Hadith of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

(Ash Shukr lillahi ‘Azza Wa Jalla: 178 and Shu’abul Iman: 4151)

The narration is suitable to quote as the statement of Bakr ibn ‘Abdillah Al Muzani (rahimahullah).

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
