Is this Hadith authentic?
إن الله يباهي بالشاب العابد الملائكة يقول انظروا إلى عبدي ترك شهوته من أجلي
Answer
This narration is recorded in Musnadul Firdaws with an extremely weak chain.
(Refer: Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 1841, Al Mudawi, Hadith: 886 and Mizanul I’tidal, vol. 5 pg. 156, number: 9153)
Translation
Allah Ta’ala boasts to the angels regarding a youngster who is engaged in the ‘ibadah of Allah. Allah says, ‘Look at my servant, he has given up his desires for my sake.’
A similar narration has been recorded in Az Zuhd of Imam Ahmad ibn Hambal as the statement of Yazid ibn Maysarah (rahimahullah) with a suitable chain. The wording of this version is as follows:
Yazid ibn Maysarah says, “Allah ‘Azza wa Jalla says, ‘O youngster who has sacrificed his desires for My sake, spent his youth for Me, you are like some of my angels”
(Az Zuhd, Hadith: 547)
