Informing people about Ramadan

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

The following Hadith is widespread over the internet and I would like to know whether these are the words of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam):

“If one informs another about Ramadan first, then hell fire will become forbidden for that individual”

I couldn’t find the reference. Is this Hadith fabricated?

Answer

I haven’t seen this in any Hadith.

There is a fabricated Hadith like this one regarding the commencement of the month of Rabi’ul Awwal.

See here

It’s possible that some people have misquoted this fabrication.

As a precaution, one should avoid quoting the Hadith in question until it can be validated.

Note: I haven’t seen any Hadith promising Jannah for merely being the first to break the news of anything.

‘Being the first’ to broadcast news/views is a trait synonymous to social media and not religion!

In Islam we are encouraged to be the first to practice on whatever good we hear or learn. Therefore, before we pass on any authentic quote of Islam, we should be first to inculcate it [or at least intend to do so], before broadcasting it.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
