The best names for children

Is the following narration authentic and suitable to quote?

Jazakallahu khayran

Answer:

The version you have cited is problematic due to a technicality in the chain, as pointed out by Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) above.

The following version is a better option, and may be quoted:

Sayyiduna Abu Wahab Al-Jushami (radiyallahu’anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said:

‘Keep the names of the Ambiya. The most beloved of names to Allah Ta’ala are: ‘Abdullah and ‘Abdur Rahman. The most truthful names are: Harith and Hammam, whilst the worst are: Harb and Murrah.’

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 4911, Al-Adabul Mufrad of Bukhari, Hadith: 837)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
