Questions on removing najasah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

Assalamu alaykum.I have the following questions related to removing filth:
1.Is the water which is squeezed out when washing an impurity najis?
2.You said in a fatwa that what should be used for istijmar should be absorbent, and the questioner made mention of stone, twig, metallic pole and u said stone may be used and the pole mustn’t when both are not ‘absorbent’.Please explain what the characteristics of such absorbent materials are?And why stone is permissible and pole isn’t?

Answer

Wa ʿAlaykumus Salām Wa Raḥmatullāhī Wa Barakātuh

  1. That water that is squeezed out from something impure when being washed is regarded as impure since it is being squeezed out together with the impurities.
  2. It is correct that only absorbent materials may be used for istijmār.

The Prophet ﷺ used stones for istijmār; hence it may also be used.

Also, according to all scientific researches that were conducted, it has been concluded and established that all stones are absorbent.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best
