Full Comprehensive Vehicle Insurance

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Q. I would like to know if having your vehicle insured as fully comprehensive is permissible.

A. All forms of insurances are totally haram (unlawful in Islam). Hence, to be a part of any will not be permissible for a Muslim. However, seeing that ‘having a car insurance’ is a law in our country, it will be allowed for a Muslim to have the minimum required insurance which will fulfill the requirement of the law of the country. In this regard, seeing that ‘the third party insurance policy’ is the minimum which is required by law, a Muslim is advised to have this policy, instead of the fully comprehensive one. (see contemporary Fatawa by Mufti Taqi Usmani).

And Allah knows best.
