Question:

As Salalam u alaikum,

I recently came upon this article which gave evidence that smoking is prohibited in Islam. I found that the evidence and proofs is skewed towards showing that smoking is indeed prohibited in Islam. What your opinion?

Answer:

Wa Alaikum as Salaam,

Yes, many scholars have stated that smoking is prohibited in Islam, while some scholars have maintained that it is Makrooh (highly reprehensible).

The harms are many and are destructive to one’s health. Hence, in accordance to the beautiful teachings of Islam, Muslims must refrain from smoking or tobacco use..
