Naming Someone Mohammad Ahad

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Answered by: Shaykh Shafiur Rahman

Question:

Is it ok to name someone Muhammad Ahad?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

There are some names of Allah that are exclusively for Allah that people are not allowed to name themselves with like al-Rahman and al-Razzaq. There are also some names of Allah that people are also allowed to name themselves with like Karim or Malik.1 Ahad is also such a name and one may keep it as long as one intends by it just the name and not that the person is unique and one like Allah. Therefore, one may keep the name Mohammad Ahad.

Only Allah knows best
