Question

The scenario is: A man reads his 4 fardh of Zuhr salah at home intentionally and he leaves his 2 Sunnats, thereafter he goes and joins the imam in Jama’at of Zuhr, then will that 4 in Jama’at count as his remaining two Sunnats and two Nafl?

Answer:

If a combined intention is made of performing two Nafl salaah (such as Tahiyyatul Masjid and Tahiyyatul wudhu, it is permissible. (It will be more rewarding to read them separately)

However, to combine intentions between Sunnah and Nafl in one salaah, this is not permissible.  (Ahsanul Fatawa page 453, volume 3)
