Why is it forbidden for Muslim women to cover their ankles?

dear mufti sahab can u plz enlight why in islam covering of ankle is haram i have read in certain books and by some maulanas that in acient times the people who r proudy they stich there umama of kurta or whatever they wear very long or in short u can say that it is the (alamat of gurur)but now if we have to go office or in school or college if our trouser is not according to dress code then it will look very aukward and if we r covering our ankle then we r not showing proud mean we do not have intension of proud plz write your name who ever mufti sahab answer this question plz confirm at the earliest thanks and best regards Mohammad Imran khan

(Fatwa: 267/270=L)

It is unlawful to wear pyjama etc below ankle though without the intention of arrogance. If one wears it out of arrogance then it has double sin; one for wearing below ankle and second for arrogance. (Extracted from Imdadul Fatawa: 4/122)
