Is it permissible to work for a non-Muslim employer and light candles in his presence as commanded by him?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
I do job with a non-muslim employer. Every thrusday he commands me to enflame a candle in a blank place (Not before any idol) I flame the candle by saying “Kul ya ayyuhal Kafiroon … & Kulhuwallahu … (Full Surah) I want to know is it Jayaaz or not ? What should I do ? Should I refused to do so ? Please, clarify.

Answer

(Fatwa: 1024=770/H)

If the lighting of the candle is just for light then there is no matter, but apparently he gets it lighted for some religious tradition; therefore it is not allowed. You should put him an excuse for the same.
