Is saying “so-and-so is my lord” shirk?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
. I heard some people saying that it is alright to say so, while some say that it comes under shirk.

Answer

(Fatwa: 436/287/D=1433)

If someone says “Ya Rasul Allah” with the belief that the holy Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) is omnipresent and omniscient and he listens to our calls and requests and fulfils our needs, so this is unlawful and shirk. But instead of the said belief, if someone pronounced “Ya Rasul Allah” sometime out of utmost love then it is allowable but it is better to avoid this word since it involves a doubt of shirk.
