I am the father of 25 years old widow.my daughter got married very early.she has a five years old daughter.what is the correct duration of iddat.is it till the widow gets her three monthly mentuational cycle or it is four months ten days.and after the iddat the widow has the full right to start a new life.pls guide.

(Fatwa: 2297/1887=B/1429)
The iddah of a woman whose husband died is four months and ten days. And the woman who is divorced she will observe iddah of three menstruations. By starting a new life, if you mean second marriage, then it is permissible for her to do so.
