Is giving charity equal to a newborn’s hair sunnah?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Is it sunnah to give charity in form of money or silver or gold equivalent to the weight of a newborn baby hair?

(Fatwa: 1288/1060/L=9/1439)

One should give in charity silver or gold equal to the weight of hair of the newborn baby after shaving it off. It is mustahab and the Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has urged for the same. It should be noted that it should be weighted with gold or silver, not with rupees. However it is also correct if money is given in charity in place of gold or silver.
