Dealing with wasawis.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I am a deobandi muslim. I had the problem of waswaas. I had afew wrong things in my mind about which I later came  to know that having such things  in mind takes a person outside the fold of Islam. I repented sincerely and read the kalimas but I am not getting satisfied. Have I become the muslim again or I have to repent and read the kalima infront of witnesses and after having the ritual bath ? Nobody knows about it and I dont want anybody to know about it…please help.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

We take note of your situation, may Allah Ta’ala alleviate you from your predicament. Ameen.

Firstly, we would like to point out that if one has left the fold of Islam, it is sufficient for him to recite the shadah in order to re-enter the fold of Islam. Having witnesses is not necessary.

There are many ways to deal with wasawis (evil whisperings):

1. Whenever any doubt/waswasa arises in your heart, recite tawwuz and thereafter, do not entertain such thoughts.

2. Remind yourself constantly that these thoughts are from Shaytaaan, how can I listen to them and give them credence? How can they be correct and authentic?

3. Implore Allah Ta’ala in du’aa to alleviate you from your predicament. Du’aa is the most powerful weapon of the believer.

4. Whenever such thoughts come recite the following Du’aa in abundance:

لا حول و لا قوة الاالله

“There is no power to neither do any good nor prevent any evil except in Allah”

5. Remember Allah Ta’ala excessively. Allah says in the Qur’an:

الا بذكر الله تطمئن القلوب

“Behold! The hearts attain tranquility through the remembrance of Allah” (13:28)

We would also advise you to read the book “Combating the whisperings of Shaytaan” by Moulana Yunus Patel (Rahimahullah). Kindly refer to the following link to download the book:
