I came late for Asr Salaah, do I perform Fardh or Sunnah?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I went to the Masjid for Asr Salaat and i was a bit late and the upon reaching the Masjid i saw the Fard Salaat has started. What do i have to do? Do i Pray my 4 Sunnat first or joint  the imam to pray 4 Fard and miss the 4 sunnat?

Answer

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

If the Asr Fardh Salaah has already begun, one should join the Jamaat (congregation) and not perform the four desirable (Mustahab) Rakaats before Asr.[1]
