In islam is singing good or prohibited?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

In islam is singin good or prohibited?

Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

To sing the praises of Allah Ta’ala and the Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi Wa-Sallam) is permissible and in fact desirable. Similarly, to sing songs with rich content of wisdom etc. is also permissible. However, this must strictly be done without music.

وأما المغني لنفسه لدفع وحشته فلا بأس به عند العامة عناية وصححه العيني وغيره قال ولو فيه وعظ وحكمه فجائز اتفاقا
