I have often heard in Bayaans that there are 5 Sunnahs in drinking water. Please identify the Hadiths that point to these.

Answer

The following are some of the Sunnats of drinking:
1. To sit and drink. (Sahih Bukhari Hadith6452 and Sahih Muslim)
2. To drink with the right. (Sahih Bukhari)
3. To take 3 sips (Sahih Muslim)
4. Not to breath into the utensil (Mustadrak al-Haakim)
5. To say Bismillah before drinking. (Sahih Bukhari and al-Azkaar)
6. To recite the following Du’aa after drinking, ‘Alhamdulillaahi llaadhiy
at’ama wa saqaa, wa sawwaqahu wa ja’ala lahu makhraja.’ (Abu Dawud). This Du
‘aa could also be recited after eating. (Ibid)
