Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Islam emphasizes that Muslims should have good names and give good names to their children.

It is the infant’s vested right to be honoured with a good name. When choosing a name for the child, it should be done with the intention that the child will be blessed with the barakah of that name. [i]

Consider the following hadeeth:

إِنَّكُمْ تُدْعَوْنَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِأَسْمَائِكُمْ وَأَسْمَاءِ آبَائِكُمْ فَأَحْسِنُوا أَسْمَاءَكُمْ

Translation: On the Day of Resurrection, you will be called by your names and by your father’s names, so give yourselves good names.

(Sunan-Abu Dawood, Kitaabul Adab)

Hereunder are the names with their meanings:

Sharfeen: Not an Arabic name. Not a suitable name.

Sana: Means bright faced (سنا) or high in status (السناء). [ii]

Shahila: Means black eyed. Not a suitable name. [iii]

Hiba: Means a gift/gifted one.

Zainab: Daughter of Nabi (ﷺ). Means a fragrant flower. [iv]

The name of a person has an effect on the individual’s personality and his/her characteristics. Therefore, we advise you to adopt the names of the companions (Sahabaah/Sahabiyyaah) of Nabi (ﷺ).

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
