Receiving change for purchasing a haram product

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

As Salam alaykum. I’m still waiting for my question to be answered? I also have another question if you wouldn’t mind fowarading to the appropriate person.

My question is if someone buys a haram item such as alchol etc with halal money does the change he recieved back become haram money or is it still permissible to keep and use? For example if I have £20 and buy a bottle of alcohol for £10 and the shop keeper gives me £10 change, would that still be considered halal money.?

I also ask if there is some way you could help me sign back into askimam.org as I forgot my password and for some reason I’m not receiving the reset password link.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

1) Your initial query has been answered.

2) The change received is halal.[1]

Bear in mind, it is totally impermissible for a Muslim to purchase haram items such as alcohol.[2]

3) You may email admin@askimam.org to request a password reset or submit your queries to admin@daruliftaa.net.
