Due to my poor health can I read taraweeh at home?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

1. My question is regarding taraweeh.  Due to my health (i feel dizzy standing long hours) I dont go for taraweh prayers in Ramdan but go for all other farz prayers. Will I be sinful for leaving out taraweeh? I however pray taraweh at home and recite short suras in prayer like sura ikhlas, sura kauthar.

2. I also want to ask you can the Prophet Muhammad (saw) hear our durood or does an angel send the durood to Prophet Muhammad (saw)?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.

As-salaamu `alaykum wa-ramatullahi wa-barakatuh.

  1. The month of Ramdhaan is a sacred month. It is a month to connect ourselves  with Allah and exert ourselves to the best of our ability. It is a month to invest for our Aakhirah (hereafter). The reward for a fardh act is multiplied 70 times and the reward of a nafl act is equivalent to a fardh act. You should take advantage of the great rewards of the month of Ramadhaan and try to perform your taraweeh with jamaat. Furthermore it is a sunnah to listen to the entire Quraan in taraweeh. If you perform taraweeh by yourself, you will be deprived of the reward of performing taraweeh in congregation and listening to the entire Quraan in taraweeh. If you are unable to stand and perform taraweeh and feel dizzy due to standing, you may sit and perform taraweeh. However, if you are unable to sit and perform taraweeh in the masjid due to your ill heath, and you perform taraweeh at home , the taraweeh will be valid.[1]
  2. If someone presents himself before Rasulallah ﷺ by the blessed rawdha (grave) of Rasulallah ﷺ and greets Rasulallah ﷺ with salaat and salaam, Rasulallah ﷺ hears the durood and salaam personally and replies to the person. If one sends durood and salaam from far, Allah appoints angels to convey that durood and salaam to Rasulallah ﷺ.[2]

And Allah Ta`ala Knows Best.
