Retracting after Forgiving Debt

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Someone ows you £100, you forgave him which means he deosn’t have to pay you anymore but then after 2 years you decided to retract and not forgive him because of certain things you rememberd, in this case will he have to pay you £100? or the first decision of forgiving will be counted?

I mean onece someone forgives someone, can he retract from it?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Once a debt is forgiven, the debtor is absolved of his liability.[i]
