I feel marriage is Waajib upon me,& I have the strong desire to get married, but can’t because I’m not working-still studying. Please advise.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Parent will not allow me to marry, until I have a job and finish studying.I can’t wait,as my studies will take long to complete.I have the firm Yakeen in Allah, that once a person marries, all the avenues of rizque & rozi will open.I have tried convincing my mother, but to no avail.I fear that if I do not marry soon,I will do something I would regret.I constantly make duaa. But dua with no effort, seems pointless.I want to look for possible marriage partners, but restrained.Becoming frustrated.Patience is wearing thin.Want to get married only with my mother’s duaas, but considering other alternatives. Please advise.

Answer

If you are confident that you will fall into sin if you do not marry, Nikah is Wajib (compulsory) upon you. For a Waajib act, you do not require your parent’s blessings or permission.

We suggest you communicate your predicament and fears to your parents and explain to them the underlying compulsion of Nikah. If they are adamant, you may go ahead and marry.
