Writing fictional stories

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I have a doubt regarding writing fiction in Islam. Is fiction writing permissible in Islam? Will it lead to telling lies, since we create stories from our imagination and life?

If it is allowed what are the guidelines to follow?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Fictional stories are permissible on condition there is nothing un-Islamic in such stories, for example,

Kufr (disbelief), Shirk (polytheism), immorality, indecency, vulgarity, etc.
