Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Dear Brother,

The incident of Imam Bukhari Rahimahullah being blind when he was young and his eyesight being restored through his mother’s duas is true.

Imam Dhahabi Rahimahullah mentions in Siyar A’lamin Nubala:

Translation: Muhammad bin Ahmad al Fadhl Al-Balkhi Rahimahullah narrated that he heard his father narrate “Muhammad bin Ismail (Imam Bukhari) lost his eyesight in his youth, so his mother saw Ibrahim Alihis salam in her dream who mentioned to her ‘Indeed, Allah has restored your sons eyesight because of your excessive crying/excessive dua (doubt is from Al-Balkhi)’. When she woke up from sleep she saw that (Imam Bukharis) eyesight was restored.” [12/393]
