Beliefs of Quraysh about Allah Taa’la

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

The Quraysh of Makkah believed in Allah as the Supreme Lord which affiremed their Tawheed Ruboobiya. Is this correct?

What were their beliefs in regard to the idols which deemed them mushrikeen? How exactly did they consider their idols to be Gods?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The Mushrikeen were of different types. There were some Mushrikeen who believed in Allah and also in the idols. They believed that worshipping idols will be a means of getting closer to Allah as stated in the following verse:

وَالَّذِينَ اتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِهِ أَوْلِيَاءَ مَا نَعْبُدُهُمْ إِلَّا لِيُقَرِّبُونَا إِلَى اللَّهِ زُلْفَى

Translation: “And those who take protectors besides Him [say], “We only worship them that they may bring us nearer to Allah in position”. Surah Zumar (3)
