I am a revert Muslim. Can I attend a Buddhist family funeral?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

My family is Buddhist and I am a revert Muslim. Am I allowed to go to my family funeral? (Can I attend Buddhist Funeral as a Muslim?) Thank you so much.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is not permissible to attend to the religious activities of a non-muslim funeral. However, a very close family member may confine his presence to the funeral to express or accept condolences to the bereaved family 1.
