Are nasheeds permissible as a form of worship without evidence from Quran or Sunnah?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
Assalam Alaikum Wa Rakhmatullah Wa Barakatu….
It says on your site that nasheeds are ok to listen to as long as there is no musical instrument or female voice. If you consider the two islamic principles; 1. Anything in the world is halal unless there is any evidence from Quran or Sunnah to say that it is haram and 2. Anything in WORSHIP is haram unless there is any evidence to say it is halal. Therefore i am wondering if the principle of worship that i have pointed out here whether this applys or not for nasheeds…..Is there any evidence that says nasheeds are permissible? as they are a form of worship….? So should we listen to them….? because if we havent been specifically told that this form of worship is permissible then how can we follow it? How can we know it would please Allah? isnt it just a thread of worship that has leaked out of the sufi sect?
InshAllah you will be able to clarify this for me

Answer
Waalaikumussalam warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
Bismillahir rahmaanir rahim.

In ‘Umdatus Saalik (pg. 775-776), {Ibn Hajar Haytami (ra) states:

As for listening to singing that is not accompanied by instruments, one should know that singing or listening to singing is makruh (offensive) except under the following circumstances:

Some scholars hold that singing is sunnah at weddings and the like. Of our imams, Ghazali (ra) and Ibn Abdus Salam (ra), they say that it is sunnah if it moves one to a noble state of mind that makes one remember the HereAfter.

It is clear from this that all poetry which encourages good deeds, wisdom, noble qualities, abstinence from this worldly things, or similar pious traits such as urging one to obey Allah, follow the sunnah, or shun disobedience, therefore, is sunnah to write, sing or listen to as more than one of our imams have stated is obvious, ‘Since using a means to do good is itself doing good.’ (Extracted from Kaff al-ra’a’ ‘an muharramat al-lahw wa al-sama’ (y94), 2.273)}

And Allah knows best.

Wassalam.
