Breaking one’s fast due to low sugar

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I am a diabetic and insulin dependant. I am fasting and my sugar levels have dropped below 4. Is it permissible for me to break my fast or do I continue fasting? What is the punishment for breaking my fast?

A: If a reliable physician asks you to break the fast then you should break the fast.

There is no punishment.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
