Is “Zahra Shamim” an acceptable name? Is aqiqah obligatory? How and when to perform it?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
I am blessed with baby girl and we intend to name her on the name of Prophet’s (PBUH) youngest daughter Fatimah Zahra but we just want to take the name “Zahra” and combine with my name “Shamim” to make it “Zahra Shamim”. Will this name (Zahra Shamim) be okay and permissible? Is aqiqah for new born obligatory? How and when to perform aqiqah? Will really appreciate quick reply as we are getting late for birth registration.

Answer

(Fatwa: 1447/1447/M=1433)

You can name your daughter as “Zahra Shamim”. It is a correct name. It is not necessary to do aqiqah rather it is mustahab. It is mustahab to do it on the seventh day of birth, if you could not do it on the seventh day then on the fourteenth day otherwise on twenty first day. After that period, it may be done whenever one wishes but one should take into consideration the order of seventh day.
