Is it permissible to keep small snippets (katran) from our tailoring shop for personal use or selling?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
When we stitch clothes in our tailoring shop, there are lots of small snippets (katran) which remain as waste. Can I keep that katran for my personal use? If I sell it or use in stitching different garments, will it be haram or halal?

Answer

(Fatwa: 866/872/N=1433)

The snips (katran) that are in small quantity which are left by the owners of the cloth then you may use it and it is also lawful and correct to sell it or use in other clothes etc. But if the snips are not in less quantity rather they are large and useful which are normally not left by the owners with the tailor then it is theft and unlawful to keep it with you without the clear permission of the owner.
