Zuhr and Jumuah Salah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Abdurrahman ibn Yusuf Mangera

If you accidentally pray zuhr on a Jumuah day, having completely forgotten it was Friday. Would you have to pray Jumuah again. At the time I was a musafir. Would the rules apply equally for residents and musafirs?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalamu alaykum

In the name of Allah, the Inspirer of Truth.

If a resident or traveler after having performed Zuhr performs Jumu’a, the Jumu’ah prayer is accepted and the Zuhr prayer becomes nafl.

Their Zuhr prayer will become invalidated (i.e. turn into nafl) by merely setting out with the intention to perform Jumu’a as long as they are able to reach the masjid in time and perform Jumu’ah with the imam (Radd al-Muhtar 1:548-549).

Hence, it is permissible to perform Jumu’ah prayer in the masjid for a traveler even after having performed Zuhr.

Wassalam

Abdurrahman ibn Yusuf
