Tahajjud in Ramadan

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Can you tell me if the tarawih we pray during ramadan takes place of the tahajjud namaz usually prayed all other moths on the year, i.e. should we still be praying tahajjud as well as tarawih during ramadan. Also, could you tell me if there any specific dua’s or sura’s you read during the tahajjud namaz, or should we just still read Fatiha and then a sura (and read the namaz in sets of 2 rakats), but just have the intention that this is for tahajjud?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful & Compassionate

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

No, tarawih doesn’t take the place of tahajjud. Rather, the latter remains an encouraged sunna in Ramadan. There are no specific suras for tahajjud.
