Following the Televised Meccan Tarawih

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Pre-recorded Tarawih prayer from Mecca is shown on TV everyday NY time. It’s not Isha time where I live so I tape it, and after I say my Isha prayer, I do tarawih at home. Can this be done?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

It is not valid to pray following a televised performance of prayer, whether live or recorded. You can listen to the Haram tarawih, but must pray your own 20 rakats of tarawih separately.

Walaikum assalam,

Faraz Rabbani.
