Does the Qur’an State That We Have to Hate Disbelievers?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Question: Does the Qur’an state that we have to hate disbelievers?

Answer: Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray this finds you in the best of health and spirits.

The mainstream sunni belief is that we hate disbelief, but not disbelievers; sin, but not sinners; wrongdoing, but not wrongdoers. As for the individuals themselves, we have sincere concern for the good of everyone–and everything of God’s creation.

Be wary of where you take your religion from, and whom you listen to.

wassalam,
