Question: I was born in a Muslim family. I practiced Islam for 15 years, then I stopped. My parents does not know about this.
I do believe in god. I believe in a creator. But religions are just full of doubts. Everyone has their own stance with their own religion, and so I decide to not trust anyone and seek for the answers of the right religion on my own. One major question I have is:
1. Why do disbelievers, even the good ones, go to hell?
If I were god, that is not how I judge people.
Answer: In the Name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful
Assalamu alaikum,
Thank you for your question.
Your question points to a great deal of theological confusion. I invite you to take a class on Islamic theology at SeekersGuidance.
The Qur’an is very clear that those who openly and consciously reject God’s signs are destined for hell. Given that unbelievers don’t accept the very premises of revelation, however, why should they care if revelation says they are destined for hell? To put it in very simple terms, that’s like telling your professor you don’t view him or his syllabus as legitimate, but you get upset and protest when he gives you an F in the class.
Allah is just and compassionate and only punishes or rewards on the basis of having sent clear guidance and His unlimited knowledge of the choices people would make.
May Allah reward you,
Zaynab Ansari
