Question:

Does the name Adam have any meaning?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

There is detail regarding the meaning of the name of Sayyiduna Adam in the Tafsir of Imam Tabari. The word is derived from the phrase “أديم الأرض” which means “crust of the Earth”. Allah (SWT) created Adam q from the soil of the crust of the Earth. Just as there are different types of soil: pleasant, fertile, arid etc, so these qualities (good and bad) can be found in the offspring of Adam  [1]. This detail can be found in the Tafsir of the Surah Baqarah, Ayah 31.
