What is the Ruling on the Son Who Stole Gold from His Parents House?

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Darul Iftaa Jordan
What is the ruling as regards the son who stole a golden bracelet which was concealed in a safe place within his parents' house and admitted it, then sold it?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of The Worlds, and may His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all of his family and companions.

Theft is one of the major sins since Allah, The Exalted Threatens its doer of punishment in this life and in the hereafter where He Says (What means):" Whoso doeth that through aggression and injustice, we shall cast him into Fire, and that is ever easy for Allah.30/

If ye avoid the great (things) which ye are forbidden, We will remit from you your evil deeds and make you enter at a noble gate." [An-Nisa'/29-30].

Furthermore, there is no doubt that the aforementioned sin multiples if it was accompanied with another wrongdoing or sin such as: the uncover of the peoples' private parts, terrifying the innocents, disobedience towards parents, dishonesty (As he considered one of the family members) and the like.

Therefore, the son is obliged to initiate sincere repentance, abide by the ordainments of Allah, The Exalted and return the stolen bracelet as it probably belongs either to his sister or the mother save if they pardon him, in order to avoid being persistent on the aforementioned sin and; consequently, he won't be guided for repentance. And Allah knows best.
