Can I insert cotton wool or tissue into the private area to stop discharge?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

asalaam. my question is with regards to discharge. i wouldnt say im mazoor but i do get alot of discarge. is it okay to put cotton wool or tissue slightly int the vagina to stop discarge actually coming out of the vagina and breaking wudhu? if so can this be done regularl or only in circumstances where it is neccessary for wudhu such as tawaf etc.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Sister in Islam,

In principle, it is permissible for a woman in the state of menstruation to insert cotton wool, etc. to stop the flow of the blood in order that one’s Wudhu does not break.
