“Were we created to travel into space?

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Has Allah asked us to venture into space and discover the universe?

Answer:

Dear questioner,

May Allah reward you for your important question.

Allah Most High has created us to realize and act upon our complete slavehood to Him. Part of this is to appreciate what is due to him in every single sphere of our existence: the religious, social, personal, political, environmental.

Appreciating our slavehood to Allah in environmental and political matters does include knowing about space, fulfilling our stewardship towards the universe, and giving each other our respective rights to the use of space.

As for merely discovering and traveling in space for the sake of it, I don’t believe we have been commanded to do that.
